Our Workshop in Java:
We work with a workshop just outside Yogjakarta in Southern Java. It was Maura's father who first discovered the workshop and built-up a relationship with Antok, the owner. Having seen some of the furniture we decided to start importing it on a commercial scale. Antok sets all the prices for the furniture, thereby ensuring that we pay a fair price for the product. The fact that the workshop is situated in Java rather than on Bali (where most manufacturing in Indonesia is moving to to exploit the tourist market) means that Antok is providing much-needed local employment, rather than forcing workers to migrate away from their families in search of a job.
